Program Highlights:

The in-house curriculum Planning Meeting for the year 2024 was held on June 28, 2024 The meeting started with a silent prayer. The session began with a welcome address by the IQAC coordinator, Mrs. Chithira P.C., who emphasized the importance of dynamic curriculum development to cater to diverse learning needs.

Principal Dr. Sunith Kumr G.N. highlighted the need for collaborative and reflective practices in curriculum design and the role of teachers, internship schools, experts, employers, and alumni in curriculum development planning.

This was followed by the self-introduction of the guests. The principal introduced all the faculty members to the guests.

An active and thorough discussion on the identification and evaluation of the areas aligned with the Teacher Education curriculum, the upcoming internship programs and the preparatory measures to be taken by teacher trainees before the internship programs were effectively done during the meeting.

Mrs. Thushara P. Paulose expressed vote of thanks for all those who were present.

The following were the main discussions and decisions made:

1.       While the curriculum emphasizes a constructivist approach in lesson planning and implementation, sufficient time is not getting to complete a lesson in a 40-minute duration. The remaining work will be carried to the next day/period. As a result, all the steps intended to be followed in one class may not be able to impart.

2.       Timely completion of the syllabus within a short period makes it difficult for teachers to impart a constructivist approach all the time. Hence teachers are compelled to skip many of the activities done n the class.

3.       ICT training should be sufficiently given to teacher trainees. Give them certificate practice in using Edu apps like Ubuntu which are most commonly used in many schools.so that children may feel confident in using them during the internship program.

4.       It should be made mandatory for the teacher trainees to show the lesson plans in advance both to the optional teacher in the college and the subject teacher in school. Without lesson plans teacher trainees should not be allowed to take classes. Optional teachers should make it assured that trainees are well prepared.

5.       It would be better to conduct an aptitude test for B.Ed. on entrance so as to find passionate students to be enrolled in B.Ed. Many students have no sincere passion for teaching.  This may affect the future educational system.

6.       Supplementary reading and basic knowledge are lacking in many student teachers. So it should be made mandatory to give prominence to Basic and Current knowledge about the Local, National and International news and events in the curriculum so that they will be updated with the latest knowledge.

7.       Blackboard, even though considered as a conventional tool, play a great role in classroom situation. Before the internship, teacher trainees should be given proper and enough practice in the skill of blackboard writing. Charts should be thoroughly checked by the subject teacher while they submit the charts for correction.

8.       Curriculum should include the skill of correlating one discipline with another discipline. Before the internship , they should be given training in correlating one subject with the day to-day events.

9.       Emotional maturity lacking in student teachers

10.   Creativity and flexibility is lacking among the student teachers.
